How We Review Casinos

Our rating guidelines

CasinoGam follows a strict routine and process when reviewing online casinos. We will test each site independently for multiple days before writing the review. Each review can therefore be broken down into three parts:

  • Testing Phase
  • Review Write-Up
  • Casino Rating

As per our Editorial Policy, our casino reviews are fact-checked at all times and updated with the most relevant content for our readers. If you’d like to understand the ins and outs of our review process and how we test/rate casinos, then here’s what we do.

Our Strict Casino Testing Process

It all begins with an honest testing phase. As we’ve noted in our Advertising Disclosure, we do have affiliate links for the casinos tested on this site. However, these affiliate links do not get in the way of our impartiality – and this testing process proves that:

Each Test Takes Place Over Two Whole Weeks

We will spend a minimum of 14 hours testing each casino over this period, though it usually takes us longer to gather all the right information.

We Use Real Money All the Time

We deposit genuine money when testing these casinos so we can provide accurate details for you. The amount of money we deposit largely depends on the casino’s welcome bonus; we try to ensure that we deposit enough to claim every offer in a welcome package.

A Real Person Reviews Each Site

You will see a named reviewer at the top of every casino review on CasinoGam, and they’re the person who actually tested and reviewed the site. We don’t take information from other sources or websites; it all comes from a human being who’s used the site firsthand.

What about the specific tests and the process we use when testing online casinos? We can happily break it all down for you below:

  1. Casino Security Checks: Before we do anything else, we begin by checking the casino’s security features. We’ll look out for key elements like SSL encryption, data protection features and all the other essential things a casino needs to be deemed safe. If we’re not completely sure that a casino is safe for us to join and use, we will not proceed with the review.
  2. Create an Account & Look for KYC Requirements: The next step in every review involves us making an account and taking note of the registration requirements. If KYC is necessary, we will record how long it takes for our account to activate.
  3. First Deposit & Bonus Checks: With an active account, we can now deposit money and see if we can claim the welcome bonus. We’ll deposit the minimum amount to claim the first deposit offer, which varies from site to site. We’re mainly testing how easy it is to deposit money, the deposit options available, how quickly it takes to deposit money, and if it’s easy to claim bonuses.
  4. Game Library Analysis: We then use our money to play as many different games as possible. Primarily, we want to see what types of games are available on the platform, how well they run, and what game developers you run into.
  5. Withdrawal Tests: Withdrawals are a key part of reviewing online casinos, and we test each site to see what the process is like. Is it fast, can you withdrawal easily, or are there lots of hoops to jump through? We check everything to bring you all the right information, including things like min/max withdrawal limits.
  6. Customer Support Checks: Our reviewers will always contact customer support at each casino to see how it works. We use every support method available to check that it does actually function correctly or to comment on where the support could be improved.
  7. Responsible Gaming Checks: Most importantly, we look at the casino and contact support to enquire about responsible gaming features. We do our best to dig up all the information we can about this, so you know what each casino offers in terms of safer gambling.
  8. Extra Feature Tests: Lastly, we go back around the site to uncover any extra features that may be interesting to players. This includes things like lotteries/tournaments, additional bonuses/promotions and more.

How We Rate Online Casinos – Scoring Criteria

Based on our reviews, we end up with a long list of features to look at that help us score each casino and give it a rating. You’ll see a quick breakdown of each score when consulting our reviews, but here’s a list of the scoring criteria, complete with weighting to demonstrate what’s more valuable to us.

We re-evaluate our scores fairly regularly, normally whenever a new casino review is published – or there’s an update to a specific casino.

You’ll also notice that Responsible Gambling is the most important ranking factor for us, and this is simply because we believe every casino should take care of its players. We’re also committed to encouraging you to stay safe while gambling – and you can read more about our stances on our Responsible Gambling page.

Review Disqualifications & Red Flags

During our reviews, we will often come across certain red flags that either result in a lower score or force us to disqualify a casino entirely. You won’t see any disqualified casinos as we deem them too unsafe to even mention. These are the main features or things that set off red flags:

No Responsible Gambling Features

The reddest of red flags, a lack of responsible gambling features results in an immediate disqualification.

Failed Security Checks

If a casino doesn’t have SSL encryption or can’t meet the latest security standards, then it is disqualified and seen as too unsafe to use.

Withdrawal Problems

Casinos with slow or complicated withdrawal procedures are punished in our ratings. Likewise, any casino that makes it too hard for you to withdraw money – or refuses to give you winnings – will be disqualified.

Strict Minimum Deposit Limits

Being forced to deposit too much money is a red flag for us and will lower a casino’s overall score.

Poor Customer Support

All casinos need at least one method of customer support that works. If a site can’t provide any way for you to contact them, then it will be disqualified. We also lower review scores for sites with slow customer support, or one/two methods that don’t work.
