My Story So Far
I won’t bore you with the early details of my life as it’s the same as most people. I went to school, grew up and headed to university. I chose Lancaster University, where I studied for a degree in Journalism. It wasn’t the most glamorous place in the world – and I won’t lie, I did spend a lot of time at the local casino.
I think this is what spawned my love of gambling, way back in the early 2000s. Fast forward through three years of uni and I’m a fresh-faced 21-year-old with a passion for gambling. After graduating in 2008, I went on to have multiple jobs in the TV industry. Oh, that sounds cool – no not really, it was fairly boring but at least I gained some valuable journalistic experience.
During this time I became fascinated by online casinos. You mean to tell me I can sit at home and play loads of amazing slot games? Better yet, these sites have bonuses and promotions meaning I can win way more than in a real casino! I was enthralled with it all and loved trying to develop new tactics and ways of trying to win.
As my passion grew, I tried different games and really started to understand that gambling can be rewarding if you know how to do it responsibly. The years passed and this industry grew beyond what most people expected. During the online gambling boom, the UKGC started adding loads of strict regulations. It made it harder to gamble on UK sites as they were too restrictive. So, I turned my attention elsewhere and learned about other sites for UK players.
When doing this, it soon became obvious that nobody knew where to find trusted non-UK casinos. More than that, the UKGC kept introducing things like GamStop and Gamban, further confusing the masses. I decided to put my journalist background to good use and started a small blog writing about these topics and educating British punters on where to find great non-UKGC casinos not on GamStop.
By now, it was 2020 and my little blog was getting loads of attention. I decided to take a leap of faith and created the site you’re on right now, CasinoGam! It was a big risk, but one that worked out. I can now write about something I love every single day while helping UK players find reputable casino sites.
Why Do You Love Online Gambling?
I get this question a lot as people are confused about why I wanted to pursue a career in the gambling industry.
It seems so weird to them, but it feels right to me. I’ve always been interested in the high-stakes nature of gambling. It’s thrilling, but you do have elements of strategy and nuance thrown in with pure chance. It intrigues me to see the industry grow and change over time – but this also makes it a tricky place for regular people to navigate.
That’s why I wanted to be the guy to help everyone out. I thought that if I could create good informative content, it can help many UK punters avoid bad decisions. Instead of joining terrible black market sites, they join trusted ones with fair games and no scams.
I love what I do, and I wouldn’t change it for the world!
Frequently Asked Questions
If you could play one casino game for the rest of your life, what would you pick?
Hmmm, let me think. I’ve always been a slot lover, but if I could only play ONE game forever, it would have to be roulette. I think there are some great tactics involved in this game when you dig a bit deeper and it’s super rewarding when you win.
Do you think GamStop is a good idea?
Yes, I actually do think GamStop is a good idea – it just maybe takes things too far. It’s always good to take a breather, and having a scheme that lets you exclude from multiple sites at once is genius.
The problem is that the self-exclusion last way too long and you can’t back out. I believe this pushes players to find other sites, a lot of which are extremely dangerous. It’s the main reason I made CasinoGam; to list safe non-GamStop casinos for UK players.
What changes would you make to the UKGC?
How much time do you have? I’ll try to keep it brief as I could probably write a novel on this topic.
The UKGC needs to open its eyes and realise that too many restrictions are sometimes a bad thing. The commission does a great job at regulating sites and keeping them fair, but all the limitations enforced make life harder for players. It makes people more likely to look elsewhere and find black market sites – or to use a VPN to access foreign sites with fake details. We should focus more on making the UKGC more flexible and relaxed while still maintaining a high level of safety.
What advice would you give your younger self?
Learn about wagering requirements and read the terms and conditions before you claim a bonus. Also, don’t gamble when you’re in an emotional state!
